Common Comments Non-Christians Make about Christians

Answered by the Pastor

Christians are against more things than they are for.

Yes, Christians spend a lot of time talking about what everyone is doing wrong. Don't do this, don't go there, don't say that.  We can sound like a people of don'ts.  The ironic part is that three of the most important things Jesus ever said were to "do" something.  Love one another.  Love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul. Go teaching and preaching about the Love of God.
Like any church, we also have bad days.  If you have ever been around children you know there are days when it sounds like "No" is the only word you know.  But we continue to be a church that strives to help people move forward in the love of Jesus and not condemnation.  To do that we strive to emphasize love, not failures.

I don’t see much difference in the way Christians live compared to others.

I wish I could say you are wrong.  But I know better.  We are called to be unique people in how we love others.  But just like you, there are days when we don't feel very loving.  If we are going to be honest then we must say that we strive to always be loving.  We strive to be different.  But we are not perfect.  Please don't judge us on one day or moment in life.  Rather look at the overall life of the one called Christian.  Are they someone you would want to be around more?  Are they someone you could call a friend?

Some Christians try to act like they have no problems.

This is one that really hurts my heart.  The reality is most Christians have as many problems as the next person.  Gas is to high, groceries are to expensive, and all of us are still wondering why there was ever a run on toilet paper.     We do have problems.  The one's acting like they have no problems in life is doing just that, they are acting.   It is not that we don't have problems, rather, it is because we have Jesus that we know our problems are never eternal or too great to bear.

If i were to come i would not know anyone and i might sit in someone's seat.

I am happy to say there is NO assigned seating or reservations taken at St. Andrew's for any service.  We have plenty of seats and members change seats quite often, as pastor I think they do it to confuse me.  As for not knowing anyone, being shy or unsure, we can help with that too.   Click the button below to let us know you will be attending a service.  We will be delighted to have you as our guest.  We will also have a person who will have you names and the information you have shared with us.  If you will share your contact information as well, one of our members will let you know, prior to your arrival, their name and will be there to meet you when you visit.  We want you to know, you are wanted, you are loved and we are excited to meet you.

Christians are always quoting scripture to me

If you will notice I have not quoted a single scripture in these answers.  Yes, I believe in Christ and that the Bible is His holy word.  I also know that if you are not a Christian, or even the average Christian, you may not know scripture that well.  Saying: God will never put more on you than you can handle: doesn't exactly make life any easier when you feel crushed under the pressures of  job, family and life in general.  Sharing with you that your troubles are not going to last forever, listening when you need a friendly ear, and being encouraging to help you see a better future and a greater way to love is far more important.
