Stephen Ministry is a one-to-one, lay-led Christian caregiving ministry that provides emotional and spiritual support to people experiencing difficult life circumstances, such as grief, job loss, or illness. Founded in 1975 by Kenneth C. Haugk in St. Louis, it is now active in over 13,000 congregations across 50 states, Canada, and 30 other countries. The program equips lay members as trained "Stephen Ministers" who offer confidential care by listening, caring, and providing support.
